Principal's News

God, our mother and father

Your life force is present in us all

Watch over us as we live our lives

We make this prayer in Jeusus’ name. Amen

In the past days you would have received numerous pieces of information from the school. Today's newsletter is a brief repeat of what you may be aware of already.  We will continue to liaise closely with the Department of Health and MACs (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic schools and will update you with any additional information that we receive.

Being vigilant

It is important that we all continue to monitor our own health and that of our children daily during this time.

If you or your child develop any symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath:

  • stay at home and do not attend the school site
  • seek medical advice
  • call the school to let us know.

Can I bring to your attention the following messages sent this week.

Further to the Premier's announcement on Tuesday 20th July I would like to reiterate that communication from the school can be accessed via email, Operoo, newsletter and the parent portal.

Please ensure that you view all mediums at all times and particularly in lockdown periods.

As per previous lockdowns, the continuity of learning for each class will continue to be delivered through your teachers class mode i.e.,  Seesaw / Google classrooms.

We understand that the continued lockdown will impact some children more than others.  Please remain in contact with your child’s teacher and members of the Leadership Team if you have concerns about the wellbeing of your child.

It is anticipated that the school will resume on Wednesday 28th July.

School Advisory Council

I am providing information to you re the School Advisory Council at St James Brighton.

As you know our school, like all the Catholic parish and diocesan schools in the Melbourne Archdiocese, is now under the guidance of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS).  Every school has been asked to establish a School Advisory Council as a way of giving parents and guardians a chance to be involved in the school.

Our current school board/parish education board will continue as a School Advisory Council under a new terms of reference.

The School Advisory Council will continue to advise the Principal, Mr Brendan Flanagan on important matters and be a support to the Principal and Leadership of the school in their decision making process.

In many ways we have emphasised the importance of parents and guardians being involved in partnering with the school and the way this helps your children in their education.

As Principal of the school I will continue to value the support and advice offered by the members of the Council on such matters as:

·  The Religious Education program

·  Curriculum

·  Enrolments and enrolment policy

·  School resources

·  Improvements in the school

·  Annual Report to the school community

·  Family partnerships

These are just some of the ways a School Advisory Council can give advice to the Principal and Leadership in the school – there are many other areas as well.

I am excited by the idea of renewing our School Advisory Council and hope many of you will also see this as another chance to support your school and your children.

Further information about this will be coming soon.

Faith in our Future
