St James OSHClub Term 2 2021 Report

What we’ve been up to at OSHC!

We have had an amazing start to term three at OSHClub, as we’ve introduced brand new after-school clubs! Within these clubs our term goals of focus have centred around building an awareness of culture, specifically Vietnamese culture.

Art Club

During art club the children developed their line, form and shape skills as they learnt how to draw their own self-portraits! Building upon their sense of self-identity, the children had an absolute blast and enjoyed having a little giggle at their self-representations. Check out our work in progress pieces below. We cannot wait to develop this project over the next few weeks before they star in our end of term showcase!

Developing their cultural awareness and connection to the wider community, the children also had a fantastic time learning about and painting the Vietnamese flag.

Sports Club

Building upon their physical wellbeing and fundamental motor skills, children had so much fun playing Vietnamese Tug of War. In our kids vs adults round, Laura emerged victorious as she battled in out with the children!

Did you know?

Tug of war originated in Vietnam.

Cooking Club

Back by popular demand, the children have had a fabulous time cooking up a storm in the OSHC kitchens! The children were provided with the opportunity to explore Vietnamese culture and develop their community connections as they made rice paper rolls for their families!

Habitat Heroes

In Sustainability Club, the children learnt all about animal habitats as they created their own habitat dioramas using a range of materials, including those from recycled sources. This activity will provide an excellent basis to explore the concept of sustainability this term!

Family Tree

Recently at OSHC, we’ve been working on the creation of our OSHClub family tree. Charlie in Grade 1 has helped to paint the sign for this area and has been the first family to join our tree. We hope to use this space as an area to celebrate the different cultures and families that make up the OSHC community at St James.

If you currently attend OSHC, we would greatly appreciate if you could send through a family photo so that we can build our tree!
