Wet, Wet, Wet! For those of us who are of the age, we would remember this as a UK band from the 80’s and 90’s. It is also refers to our current weather conditions and environment here in Harvey and elsewhere in the state. It is great to be having the rain and in speaking to the locals, “this is what it used to be like”. We welcome the rain to support our agricultural industries, filling the dams and water reservoirs.

National World Skills Presentation

On Monday 26th July I had the privilege of attending the National World Skills Presentation to witness Geoff Tozer and Toby Emmett receive their uniforms for TEAM WA. This is the first time WA has had representation in the VET in Schools Primary Industry Category of the National World Skills Competition.

Geoff and Toby will be joined by two students from WA College of Agriculture Cunderdin in representing the State. Congratulations boys.  We wish you all the best for the competition at the end of August.

Student Process

Currently all Year 12 students are being met with on an individual basis following Semester 1 reports. The purpose of this is to identify, clearly outline to each student and set goals for their focus in Class, Trades and Farm for the remainder of their time at the College. This will also provide the individual student with some clear goals and targets towards attaining their WACE. Parents and guardians will be kept informed throughout this process.

Farewell Jeff Kenny

Today we acknowledged the great service and dedication of Jeff Kenny, Trades Instructor in Building & Construction and Woodwork.

Jeff commences his well-deserved LSL on Monday 2nd August, following which he intends to transition into retirement.

Jeff has been at the College since 2000 as both a Woodwork and BC Teacher and Residential staff member at Wokalup when the Dairy house was in operation, this was prior to the College being relocated . Jeff has always been involved with organising bonfires, discos and was DJ at the College Ball for a number of years.

Jeff is a long serving member of the College, and has worked hard for the students, fostering and developing links with the building industry and students obtaining apprenticeships in their field of choice.

Enjoy your LSL and the transition into the next stage of your life, Jeff. Best wishes from the students, staff and College community.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Interviews are scheduled to take place on Thursday 19th August. The day will follow a similar format to that at the end of Term 1, with both face to face and phone interviews available for parents/guardians to make bookings. Specific details in relation to the structure of the day and booking process will be provided next week.

Return of Staff

Two weeks have flown by as Steve Watt returns to the College next week after some LSL. I will be returning to my role as Vice Principal and Shaun Cantwell will resume as the HOD Trades. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Shaun for his time in the role as Vice Principal and the positive work he has undertaken.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
