This week has seen National Boarding Week celebrated with an array of activities and events taking place at both the PLC and Wolaroi sites. It is a great way to celebrate Boarding and all the positive aspects of living and learning together in a boarding environment.

Posters with the theme #weloveboarding were displayed at Assembly, showing the unique and diverse opportunities and interests that Kinross Wolaroi boarders have and experience every day.

Inviting friends and teachers to dinner was a chance to share some moments outside of the classroom and show other members of the School community our second home. Perhaps the most rewarding feature of the week was celebrating the act of giving and showing appreciation.  This took the form of writing thank you cards to those who make our lives more comfortable, keep us well feed and clean, and to those staff that often are overlooked, giving us the opportunity to let them know that we recognise them, and appreciate them.

We had themed dinners and quiz nights and gathered to enjoy each other’s company.  All these events have been enjoyable and celebrated the true sense of community that comes with being in Boarding.

It is fitting that we finished off the week with a Sunday Chapel Service, with a chance to reflect, slow down and appreciate what we have, and the sacrifices others have made to allow us to be here, especially our parents and carers. Thank you to everyone who supports the Kinross Wolaroi boarders.

The boarding staff keep the safety and wellbeing of the Kinross Wolaroi boarders as their highest priority, and in the lead up to National Boarding Week many of our staff members completed a Duty of Care course run by Australian Boarding Schools Association.

It truly is something that should be celebrated and acknowledged that the support staff, the cleaners, the maintenance team, the kitchen staff, teaching staff and most importantly, the boarding staff, are all working to keep our boarders and boarding at the heart of the School.

To our boarders - this week has been a celebration of you and what is to be a boarder!

What a start we have had to Term 2!

Miller House started the term off with a night at the movies for all of boarding – it was wonderful going out together again in the community and enjoying time with our friends. PLC girls also had a bowling night which was enjoyed by all houses. We have also had a PLC trivia night, as well as a trivia night across both sites to celebrate National Boarding Week.

This term we have been able to support some local fundraising events. In early May, the PLC boarders baked homemade treats and our student leaders cooked bacon and egg rolls and sold these at school to raise money for breast cancer research. This was held in conjunction with our participation in the Mother’s Day Classic at Lake Canobolas. We were able to donate over $1700 from our fundraising for this cause. We will also be participating in the annual Red Shield Appeal for The Salvation Army.

We had a lovely week celebrating National Boarding Week. We took time to reflect on what we love about boarding. We were able to invite staff members to come and have dinner with us and we showed them around our houses and the facilities. We loved showing off our home away from home.

This term has been busy, but we have also had opportunities where we have been able to relax. We have had in-house movie nights, Just Dance competitions, made homemade pizzas and enjoyed some delicious deliveries from Spilt Milk. We have also loved being back on the sporting fields and being able to support our friends.

It is hard to believe that we have been back for 5 weeks already – time sure flies when you’re busy and having fun. We are very grateful for the time and effort that has been put in by our student leaders and boarding staff to ensure that we have plenty of opportunities. It has been so nice being able to mingle and socialise in each other’s houses again and have sleep overs with our friends on the weekends. We are looking forward to the rest of Term 2.
