KWS Mariners Football

Let the Games Begin - 7/05/22

It may have been chilly conditions on the hollowed turf of Jack Brabham Number 7, however, the KWS Mariners were providing some heat on the soccer pitch. With the Year 6 team coming off the bus on Friday evening with only one training session under our belt, the Mariners played with tenacity and grit. A great strike mid-way through the first half saw this legendary team take the lead 1- 0. After a fierce comeback from our competitors, our final result did not reflect the effort all Mariners put in.

Congratulations to our team, we look forward to consolidating our game plan at training to continue to build throughout this season. Points:

Half the Trainings, Double the Games - 14/05/22

And they’re off and racing! The KWS Mariners are building to greatness and Week 2 certainly delivered. With a familiar opposition in the CYMS, our up-and-coming team of young Socceroos and Matildas played with their hearts on their sleeve.  With great structure and communication, the Mariners held strong in defence and attacked with poise down the centre.  With a quick reshuffle of positions on our field, CYMS maximised on the opportunity and made it to half time with a 1 – 0 lead.

Fresh legs in the second half allowed our team to launch into attack and make an impressive mark on not only the score sheet but the minds of all spectators. With a late injury and the opposition receiving generous help from the headwind approaching from Gosling Creek, the Mariners were humble in defeat when the clock struck 12.

Congrats to our team and we’re excited for another classic battle next in Blayney Points:

Under 9 Taipans

In today’s soccer game, we, the Taipans versed the Orange Cyms!

In the first half of the game, we were constantly trying to get goals but the Orange Cyms goalie kept on grabbing the ball. Then Cyms showed us how good they were and scored a goal! After they scored their goal, we kicked a goal!

One minute before half time, Orange Cyms scored another goal.

Then it was half time, so we went off the field.

In the 2nd half we were better than ever! We scored 3 more goals! The people who scored a goal were Finlay, Winona and Lachie!

The score was 4-2! Then it was the end of the game.

We had won our first game!

Triumph Time - 21/05/22

A trip to cold(er) Blayney didn’t stop the Mariners from converting their third-round game into a triumphant victory! With a fresh new pitch at Napier 2, the Mariners vs Blayney match up saw this rivalry be the first to put the turf to the test. Quick conditions allowed the Mariners to make a well-deserved early conversion. With confidence continuing to grow and game plan continuing to be executed, the scoreboard of 1 – 0 quickly grew to 2 – 0 and then to 3.

Halftime came, lollies shared and tips given, the Mariners were ready to embrace the second half. Whilst quick subs and changes from the positional play of the opposition tested the Mariners, as successful athletes do, this team rose to the challenge. With good on field communication, persistent play to the sidelines and swift passes cut into the center, the Mariners held their Blayney opponents to nil when the full-time whistle blew.

The hard work this team puts into not only building a culture of success but also one of sportsmanship and encouragement is inspiring. Congratulations to the Mariners for their first win of the season. We look forward to continuing to grow our game in the match ups to come.
