Uniting Church Service: Koristers & Thompson String Ensemble

A huge thank you and congratulations to Koristers & Thompson String Ensemble members who performed at the Orange Uniting Church Service on Sunday May 15. The church was having a special celebration service to mark the conservation work and refurbishment of the building that had taken place over the last two years. Along with the Thompson String Ensemble, Koristers performed two items during the service which were were very well received, with compliments from locals and visitors to the service. We were very proud of the way our students represented the school and our music program with such professionalism and enthusiasm.

Music Festival: Thursday 9 June 2022

Performing Arts students and staff are looking forward to this year’s Music Festival, which will be held in the DPA.  Families are invited to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy music provided by KWS ensembles and Year 12 Music students.  Tickets are on sale through Trybooking.  This year’s event is a fund raising concert – we are raising money to purchase a set of musician chairs for our ensembles to use.

Zeal Theatre: Wednesday 8 June 2022

On Wednesday 8 June we look forward to once again welcoming Zeal Theatre to Kinross Wolaroi School to perform for our Drama students. Our 9-12 Elective Drama students will attend a performance of Meltdown which is written and produced by Zeal Theatre. Zeal’s plays are intentionally related to significant issues our students deal with in the

modern world.

Our Year 12 Drama students will also attend a group devised workshop with the Zeal Theatre actors following the performance. Professional workshops are proven to assist students with improving their collaboration skills and the insight and experience that the performers will impart to the students is invaluable. This is an important step toward our students achieving success in their Group devised major work for the HSC.

Student Achievement

Toby Gough

Toby Gough recently attended the International Music Examination Body Graduation Ceremony.  He was awarded his Associate Diploma of Speech and Drama (Teaching), and Associate Diploma of Theatre Performance Arts, with Honours.

It has taken 11 years for Toby to reach the Diploma level in his studies. Last weekend’s ceremony was an opportunity for him to celebrate his success with other Diplomates from across NSW.

Toby was the only student to receive two diplomas this year. He is now working as a part time teacher with Encore Speech and Drama Studio in Bathurst, and has also been employed by Bathurst Broadcasters 2BS/B-Rock as a part time newsreader.

Congratulations on this significant achievement Toby.

Annabelle Van Wyk

Anabelle is a versatile performer who plays saxophone, violin and piano.  She’s also a keen vocalist and she recently attended the annual Parkes Elvis Festival as an invited artist. Anabelle placed 3rd in the Open Unplugged Competition; being the youngest and only female competitor. She also placed 2nd in the Tribute to Elvis completion.  Congratulations Annabelle!
