Equestrian

A LOT has been happening at the Equestrian Centre this past six weeks. Not only have we held a very successful clinic with instructor Andrea Riedel (who we will host again in July), but we also welcome back 12 senior and junior students to the Horsemanship Program, conducted in a variety of disciplines including dressage, jumping, games and horsemanship skills.

We’ve had a number of enquiries from parents who would love their children to be involved with the Horsemanship, Program but haven’t quite got a horse available, so without further ado, let me introduce you to the four new members of the Equestrian Centre Staff.

Patchy aka ‘Fat Patch’ is a 10.2hh palomino paint Shetland who loves food, cuddles, and more food. Patchy has taught many young children to ride (including my own) and spent five years as a therapy horse for Equine Assisted Therapy. She’s perfect for our junior students who are just looking to start out on horseback.

Pebbles is a 12.3hh chestnut paint pony. Pebbles has had many child riders and is the ideal lesson horse for younger students who may be looking to move onto something bigger, or their second lesson horse. She has a lot of get up and go so really would suit the ‘thrill seekers.’

Lachy came to us this term from a farm just outside of Geelong. As honest and sweet as the day is long, Lachy is the perfect older gentleman who, for a scratch and a treat, will do anything you ask. Standing at 13.2hh, he’s a talkative old chap – especially when he sees you coming with his favourite food bucket!

Finally, Gilly has just joined our team and is suitable for our older riders. With a long history of teaching beginners, Gil’s 16hh frame can cater for all sizes, including those students who are looking to learn how to jump.

If you’re keen to know more about our Horsemanship Program, or how you can hire one of our horses for students to have lessons, please send an enquiry to equestrian@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au and we’ll get back to you with more information.

Finally, Fiona Normand, EA Instructor and Judge, returns on 18 and 19 June 18 for a two day clinic. Bookings are filling fast, so if you’re keen to be a part of these fabulous lessons visit https://events.humanitix.com/fiona-normand-dressage-and-flatwork-clinic to book.
