TALKING ON THE TURF

In the last week of Term 2, The English faculty ran what we hope will be the first of a traditional event: Talking On The Turf. This event showcased the persuasive public speaking talent of our Year 12 cohort.

Selected students delivered the speeches they crafted for their Persuasive Argument SAC, presenting on a range of topics including the insidious spread of TikTok, the abuse of female athletes, the dangers of fast fashion and regulations around political donations.

Thank you to the amazing students who spoke at the event: Andrew Thompson, Isabel Asmaryan, Ethan Sporton, Ruby Doan VoJack Dao, Lachlan Mokotow and Georgia Foran.

We look forward to hearing from next year’s crop of persuasive speakers.

VCE ENGLISH PODCAST

Semester One saw the launch of the VCE English podcast. This is a dynamic resource offering our students another way to engage with content.

Last term we featured a variety of teacher conversations, modelling collaborative learning and demonstrating to the Year 12s that some of the best ideas are generated in conversation with others. It is hoped that these conversations will enable students to stretch their thinking and develop as more sophisticated writers.

Towards the end of last term, Mia Sarra hosted a 'Student Take Over' episode, interviewing members of the class of 2022 about their speech topics and gathering their preparation tips for the Presenting Argument SAC. Thanks to Tait Thomson, Gemma Milner, Taya Minin, Sophia Diegelmann, Ryan Borowitz, Archie Redman, Isabel Asmaryan and Lucy Anderson for sharing their thoughts.

Listening to the podcast is a great way for students to prepare for class discussion, is an invaluable tool for those who may be unwell at home and also provides reluctant readers an alternative way to process content. You can listen to the podcast here.
