WELCOME BACK TO TERM 3

Term 3 has commenced well, and students look well rested and happy to be back at school. I hope the teacher feedback provided in school reports will help encourage and support students to achieve their very best and help them prepare for a productive semester ahead.

It has been great to see so many events hosted back at school including Vocal Night at the Main Campus and the Language Expo at the East Campus. These are just a few of the many events we enjoy celebrating.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

For the first time since 2019 we attended our athletics carnival on Monday 18 July at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. Students showed great resilience for the first two hours as we shivered through rain and wind.

Thankfully, the sun came out and everyone was able to enjoy the day. It was fantastic to see so many students competing and supporting their house.

Thank you to all the students and staff who attended and made it such a great day. A special thanks to Claire Weiss for organising this event. I also want to thank the Interact Club for coordinating the sausage sizzle.

AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHY COMPETITION

McKinnon Secondary placed sixth overall in the Australian Geography Competition this year, which is an incredible achievement.

These are the highlights of the individual results:

Congratulations to the Top 1% students:

Congratulations also to Kayla Graham (Year 11) who was one of the top students in her age group and was flown to Darwin over the break as part of the Geography Big Week competition. This is the selection process for the Australian team for the International Geography Olympiad. Of the 12 students who traveled to Darwin, four will be selected for the Australian team. We have our fingers crossed she can make it!

BUS ROUTE

We have been advised by the Department of Transport that they will be providing an additional bus service (route 626 deviations) to accommodate our students traveling from the east campus. This is anticipated to be in operation within the next few weeks. We will be providing more detailed information within the next fortnight.

COVID UPDATE

It is recommended that face masks are worn in indoor settings (except for close contacts, who must wear a mask indoors unless an exception applies). Face masks can be collected from the General Office at each campus when necessary.

RAPID ANTIGEN TESTS (RATs)

A slight change from term 2, RATs will be available for use by staff and students who are symptomatic or who are household contacts. These can be collected from the General Office at each campus when necessary.
