NIAS Indigenous Sports Talent Day

Last Wednesday eleven students from St Xavier’s went to Longmuir Oval for an indigenous talent identification day. 

In netball they practised passing the ball and intercepting to test their reflexes. They looked at the students agility with complex drills that required listening skills and brain power to be 100%. Everyone enjoyed the group work and connecting with people from other schools.

For rugby league, the students were treated to instruction from Nathan Blacklock, who is a famous former NRL player. They worked on passing skills as well as defence and teamwork. 

In fitness they tested flexibility, jumping and endurance. The students said It was funny to see how inflexible some people were and surprising how jumping high doesn’t always mean you have to be tall. They were all interested to find out how fast they were over 5, 10 and 20 metres. 

It was a fantastic opportunity to be with the community, meet new kids and learn new skills. 

Diocesan Cross Country

What an awesome effort by all the students who ran at the Diocesan Cross Country on Friday 6 May in Barraba. A huge thanks to the parents who stepped up to help on the day and to those who travelled to support the runners.

Congratulations to John Sheedy (5th), Ruby Cygan (4th) Josh Spinks (1st), Lara Torrens (2nd), Maggie Brown (3rd), Sienna Edmunds (2nd) and Ted Sheedy (6th) who have all made the Diocesan Team to compete at the NSWCPS Cross Country on 7th June.

Congratulations also to our 11 Years Boys Team (Lachlan Smith, Benjamin Grosser, Henry Weinthal) and our 10 Years Girls Team (Ruby Cygan, Luna Baynton, Laura Donoghue, Isabella Hamilton, Molly Ramien, Josie Knapman) who brought home the Teams Championship Trophy for their age groups.
