SAC

Term 2 has truly started with students being able to once again experience some wonderful camps and excursions to help their learning. It was great seeing all the great pictures on ClassDojo from the Year 5 and 6 camps and the excursions to the Zoo and Aquarium just to name a few.

Our new COVID normal while challenging with a number of teachers and students falling ill is still a far cry better to remote learning and I thank all the teachers, support staff and families who have been following the health guidelines. Everything helps in ensuring St Michael's stays open for the benefit of our children. For all the staff and families that are feeling the effects of COVID and now the flu, I wish you all a speedy recovery. And while not compulsory, wearing a mask still goes a long way to help us all from getting ill.

When I dropped Antonina off to school the other day I was pleasantly surprised to see the basketball court in full swing with children running around and utilising every corner of the reclaimed space. While the building is behind in its construction due to staffing issues and the delivery of materials, it is great to see the new facilities of the school taking shape.

At our meeting on Tuesday, 17th May 2022, Denise and Steven presented to the SAC the new child safety standards that are being rolled out throughout Australia for all organisations that provide education and services to children.

Within the standards there are 2-3 that require parent involvement. To help parents understand this further firstly the SAC will develop a survey for parents to complete on issues surrounding child safety and then from the data collected specific parent information sessions will be organised. Hopefully the surveys will be released to St Michael's families around the end of Term 2, with the information sessions being delivered in Term 3.

Parents and Friends Group

I would like to thank all the parents involved with the Easter raffle and Mother’s Day stall. I know that the children loved getting something special for all the hard working mums. It seems that the system for the Parents and Friends group that is in place at the moment where volunteers are asked to attend for different activities is working well. We are planning further fundraising activities, such as the Father’s Day stall and welcome all, including male parents and friends to volunteer. PS: I need a new drill.

For the safety of all and the continuance of onsite learning for our children, if you are feeling unwell please stay at home, wear a mask when you need to, get the flu vaccination and booster COVID shots when you are eligible.

Stay safe and happy.

Joe Greco

SAC Chairman.
