Dollars and Sense

Students in Dollars and Sense put their knowledge and understanding of shares, budgeting, banking, earning an income, super and scams to the test in the ESSI Money is an online financial literacy game.

ESSI Money (standing for Earning, Saving, Spending and Investing) through game play based on a 'virtual reality', students achieve an understanding of how decisions made over a period of time can have both positive and negative impacts on their financial situation. The game allows students to practise real life financial transactions and experience the consequences in a safe, fun and challenging way.

The students are required to undertake a series of financial challenges throughout a virtual six-month period, with the objective of achieving the best possible financial result. The students play the game on the premise that they are employed, independent, and at least 18 years old, so able to access and use credit.  In addition to Earning, Saving, Spending and Investing, the concept of net worth and the significance of insurance flow through the game. Players are encouraged to strategise and reflect on decisions made throughout the game by setting goals, creating a budget and making regular diary entries.

Students were engaged and really enjoyed putting their knowledge to the test.

Sporting News……Congratulations Olivia Slade

A fantastic few weeks for Olivia Slade one of our Yr 12 students winning two state titles for her lawn bowls. The first being the under 18 mixed pairs and the other, open ladies 4’s. Coming off the back of a bout of Covid, that’s an amazing effort.

This is Liv’s last under 18 campaign so to come away with a state title was brilliant. The transition from under 18 to open age is a big jump, so it was also fantastic for her to then win another state title in open age. She has been offered a state trial in 2 weeks so she will be heading back up to Bendigo for a city vs country series. Good luck in the state trials Liv.

We’ll be watching and cheering you on.

Thanks
