We are back!

After so much interruption we are back doing what we love most, performing together for live audiences.

Last weekend the Intermediate, Junior and Training Stage Bands, plus Senior Choir represented the school at the All-State Jazz Championships at St Leonards College and all ensembles were fine ambassadors for our program and the school at this heavily private school dominated event.

Congratulations to all groups and in particular the following students:

Caeley Bato – Bari Sax in Division B Super band

Sasha Durkin – Double Bass in Division B Super band

Thomas Dower – Outstanding soloist on Vibes in Division C

The Super band is selected from all bands that participated in this section which was the largest by far at All- State Jazz and most bands were senior ensembles consisting of yr. 11 and 12 students.

In Division C there were only three outstanding Soloists for the entire Division.

On Monday 23 May all our stage bands, jazz combos and Senior Choir will be performing at York On Lilydale for our annual Jazz Night as well as recording for Generations in Jazz which is virtual for this year only. There are some tickets left but you will need to be quick.

On Thursday 26 May we will be presenting our first Junior Concert since 2019 in the College Hall, commencing at 7.30 pm and featuring all our training and junior groups with special guest artists, the Intermediate Concert Band. On Thursday 16 June it is our intermediate and senior ensembles concert, commencing in the Hall at 7.30pm. We have been waiting so long for this event!

Thank you to all our musicians for persisting and showing such resilience since our return at the beginning of the year. It hasn’t been easy, but everyone is trying their best and are really stepping up to the challenges.
