Assistant Principals

It is half-way through the term and this means preparation for a range of assessments have begun to capture progress made during the semester. As with all schools in Victoria, we have been affected by illness and are managing student and staff absences in the most efficient way possible. This is an unprecedented time in education and keeping the lines of communication open between home and school is important. The covid safe measures of Ventilation, Vaccination and Vital covid safe steps apply at school to minimise the risk of transmission. We have been delivered another rollout of air purifiers which will work all day in every room and encourage physical distancing, hand hygiene and rapid antigen testing when symptomatic.

Thousands of assessments were conducted during NAPLAN fortnight and we thank Kyle Simkin, the teachers and students for a seamless process. The Student Attitudes to School Survey is also being administered and we acknowledge the work of sub schools to ensure a smooth delivery.

Education week is on from May 23rd- 27th and the program offered at Ringwood Secondary College, encapsulated in the flyer attached to this newsletter, is typical of the vibrant, energetic and active College we are. Well done to all students who take the opportunity to be involved in the myriad of activities on offer. Thank you to all staff who live the values of Culture and Service to the community. A special mention goes to the Music Association whose members are working hard to prepare for the much anticipated Jazz Night and the Chocolate Drive. New to the calendar is the PARENT CONNECT evening. Details about PARENT CONNECT have been posted to all families on Compass. A reminder if you would like to connect with our wonderful Wellbeing Team to discuss how we can collectively support student wellbeing, email Agatha Fedrizzi by Tuesday 24th to register your attendance AFedrizzi@ringwoodsc.vic.edu.au

This Education week is special as we celebrate the 150th year of public education in Victoria. The link below takes you through the fascinating history of public education in Victoria.

Significant professional development has been undertaken by staff on Cultural Understanding and Safety. This professional learning promotes an understanding of Koorie culture and history and supports improved outcomes for Koorie students. Further, briefings of the new Child Safe Standards are being delivered with guidance and resources made available to staff in preparation for the new Standards to be implemented from July 1. Our 11 provisionally registered teachers have been undertaking professional development, working with mentors and considering their projects for the year. Our mentor program is supporting them superbly and we are grateful for the expertise and dedication of our experienced teachers who are mentoring the newest members of our profession. We have a number of pre- service teachers with us too. Their involvement in the Athletics carnival on Friday brought them great joy and the occasion to interact with staff and students outside the classroom.

The Athletics Carnival was held at Proclamation Park in glorious weather. Details about the carnival will be written for the next edition of the newsletter. Meanwhile, I wanted to take the opportunity to follow up on two students who attended the Diving Age National Championships last month in Adelaide.

Leyanna Brown finished: 5/30 at 1 m springboard

1 st /31 on 3 m springboard

1st /26 on synchro 3 m springboard

3 rd/21 on platform

Nathan Brown finished 8/13 on 1 and 3 m springboard.

Congratulations to both students for the passion and dedication to your sport.
