2017 Public Education Awards
The awards program is an important way to acknowledge the talented and dedicated people working in public education and the extraordinary impact they have on the lives of children and young people in South Australia.
In addition to awards recognising teaching excellence, this year five new categories have been introduced to reflect the diversity of our workforce and acknowledge the impact of individuals and teams who demonstrate strong leadership, community engagement, innovation, and outstanding outcomes in non-teaching roles. This includes a new category to recognise our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and their contribution to child development, educational attainment and wellbeing.
We encourage everyone to recognise excellence across LNPS by getting involved and nominating staff at the school.
Nominations are open via www.decd.sa.gov.au/awards before Wednesday 31 May
New public education statement for SA
The essence of public education in South Australia – what it is, what it stands for, its foundations and the characteristics that make it the special system it is today – has been defined in an official statement.
Developed by education experts on the state’s Public Education Advisory Committee (PEAC), the comprehensive statement not only details the unique characteristics of public education, but more broadly promotes what public education stands for.
The statement identifies that our public education system is based on 3 unique foundational concepts – it is compulsory and free of tuition costs, universal and available to all, and secular. It also details specific characteristics of our public education system, including quality, equity, diversity and cohesion, collaboration and trust, community and democracy.
To read the public education statement in full, including more about its foundations, characteristics and the challenges it faces, visit the Public Education statement page on the DECD website.
