Wattle group
To start we need to say a big welcome to Kirsty who is the new teacher in the Wattle group as Emma has now started her maternity leave. Kirsty has been at the kindergarten for many years and is also the teacher of the Eucalyptus Group. She began with the Wattle group at the start of the term and was able to do a full transition with Emma before starting as the Wattle group teacher.
At the beginning of the term we celebrated Mother’s Day and our families were able to spend some time with us at kinder. It was fantastic to have families back in the kinder and the children showed such enthusiasm showing their families around their kinder environment. They had the opportunity to create paintings, drawings, threading and to sing some songs as part of our time together. A reminder to families - we have opened up stay and play at the kinder so if you would like to come and spend some time with your child at kinder, please just let us know and we can organise a suitable time. Anyone who does wish to come into the kinder is required to have a Working With Children Check and be fully vaccinated.
The children are now at the beginning stages of cooperative play, as they become more and more involved in each other’s play. They are forming some new friends and are now seeking out specific peers to join them in play or sit with them during snack and mat time.
The craft area has become a very popular area of the room with the children particularly showing an interest in cutting and pasting activities and the group readily makes use of exploring and creating with the free crafts and boxes. This has been great for the children’s fine motor development, which is essential for the children to build up in order to have the strength and coordination for writing in the future.
Outdoors on the playground, autumn has allowed for the discovery of changing colours on the trees and the fun of falling leaves, collecting leaves and throwing them up in the air.
This term, the children experienced their first incursion, which was Mini Beasts by Drama Tool Box. During this drama based experience, the children dressed up as different insects and role-played, danced and played games to music. The incursion also extended their knowledge of many familiar insects from our garden. We will book some more incursions throughout the year but we would love it if any family members would join us at kinder to share a skill with the children. In the past, families have come in and played a musical instrument, cooked or shared an aspect of their job (police, nurse etc). If you are interested, please let us know via email and we will work out a time for you to come in.
