VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies

By Danielle Harberger (Outdoor Education Teacher)

In VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies we are looking at observable characteristics used to assess the health of the environment. This week we did water testing of Monbulk Creek. We counted the different types of macroinvertebrates, tested turbidity, pH and temperature. Overall the condition of the creek bordering BHCS is in good condition, with very sensitive macroinvertebrates being present in the samples collected.

Year 11 & 12 Studio Arts Excursion

By Karelyn Joy (Art Teacher)

Last Friday, Year 11 & 12 Studio Arts students creatively filled in their day travelling into the CBD to experience the different Art Spaces Melbourne has to offer: Hosier Lane’s Street Art; The Mailbox Art space – miniature windows into the world of Art; National Gallery of Victoria The Ian Potter Centre to view 2 exhibitions: TOP ARTS featuring artworks from last year’s Art students and WHO ARE YOU Exhibition showcasing Australian Portraiture. After a relaxing lunch in the sunshine at Federation Square the students headed to Arc One Gallery to view artwork in a Commercial Gallery and lastly to Blindside Gallery to experience an Audio-visual Artwork presentation in an Artist Run Initiative.

After navigating themselves around the CBD, the students left exhausted and inspired, experiencing only a tiny portion of what Melbourne has to offer in the Art world. Maybe their photos will inspire you to explore Melbourne’s creative side too.
