Junior School Report

Junior School Newsletter

With spring just around the corner and half of term 3 behind us, it is amazing to reflect on the sheer volume of things that have been going on in the Junior School at both Acacia and Banksia.  Students have well and truly settled into their Semester 2 classes, and we are beginning to think about 2023!

Term 3 is an exciting time for our Year 9 students, as they dive into the world of Senior School subject selection.  The course counselling process includes a range of activities, culminating in a course selection interview with one of the Colleges’ course counsellors.  During weeks 3 & 4, students were invited to attend the Senior School Information Night, and it was great to see so many parents and students attend.  Pathway conversations are to be encouraged, discussions about future careers, VCE or VCE-VM, Headstart, VET courses, accelerated VCE and the STEM program are all options that need to be considered. If you would like to discuss your further you are encouraged to make an appointment with the college Careers advisor.

Year 9  Students then had the opportunity to participate in a Year 10 Taster week - attending a range of Year 10 elective classes in the Senior school. The program was developed to support our Year 9 students with their course selections, trialling many of the subjects that are on offer so they can make more informed decisions about their future education.

In addition to this, our Year 9 students have been experiencing the wonderful sights that Melbourne CBD has to offer. Students have had the opportunity to participate in city experience, a week long excursion visiting a variety of landmarks while participating in a mixture of educational and recreational sessions - Melbourne Skydeck, ACMI, Melbourne museum, The Big Issue, Federation Square, Melbourne Laneways, Immigration museum and the Royal Botanical gardens. This program aims to provide an opportunity for students to develop life skills using public transport, managing time and working in small groups to undertake learning activities while gaining an appreciation of the city we call home.
