College Principal Report

Semester Two – half way!

As we approach the halfway point of term it has been very pleasing that the lingering effects of COVID have not been too disruptive of the teaching and learning programme at the school. As you will read from the campus reports most of the usual events and activities are happening as in previous years.

Absenteeism of staff due to being COVID positive does continue to be a problem and while staff numbers are manageable at the moment it is almost certain they will rise and we will have to look at different strategies to manage when that happens. We are aware that some schools are rostering year levels home, but we are hoping it will not come to that.

One of the main foci for the school now is to employ staff for next year. Due to the introduction of the new Victorian Government Schools Agreement (which reduces teachers face to face teaching) and the fact we are increasing in student numbers we will have to employ approximately 12 – 15 new teachers

Thursday 18th August Student Free Day

Students and parents are reminded that Thursday 18th August is a Professional Practice Day for all teaching staff and students are not required at school

Principal Class Appointments

Since my last report to council we have made two substantive appointments to the Principal Team

  • Natalie Fode: Nat has been acting Campus Principal since the start of the year – I am very pleased to announce she has now been appointed to the position formally
  • Matt Sloan: similarly Matt has been acting Junior School Assistant Principal for a while and is now also appointed to the position formally.

We have not had any other staffing changes

Building project

Progress is slow unfortunately – we are hoping to start knocking down the old buildings by the start of our next term holidays.

Parent Teacher Interviews

On Tuesday 13th September parent teacher interviews will be held on site at both campuses. We will be returning to our traditional format of 5--minute face to face interviews from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. we look forward to seeing as many of her students’ parents as can be there.

COVID update

As you may be aware from coverage in the media the Department of Educations has made a recommendation regarding the wearing of masks in schools. The expectation is that, through to the end of winter, students aged 8 and over and staff will wear masks when in class, except where removing a mask is necessary for clear communication or when a particular activity requires the removal of a mask. Students or staff who do not meet this expectation will not be punished in any way but we are looking to the whole school community for your support in this effort.
