MSC Video Games Club

Melton Secondary College has proudly introduced Video Games Club, a program for the students to connect positively outside their normal classes, in a safe space.  We were honoured on Thursday 28 July to have the Brimbank/Melton Police Community Engagement team attend and participate with our students at the junior lunchtime playing UNO.

MSC thanks the Victoria Police members for their support with youth outreach and engagement, and we will continue to facilitate these meaningful support and connections as central to increasing student leadership, wellbeing, awareness and sense of belonging.

The video games room has provided students with an activity to look forward to with their peers at lunch and recess. The video games choice was strategically planned by the school to offer more peer to peer support in enriching student’s learning with positive experiences, as what provide ready to learn opportunity and growth.

Students who have a passion for soccer and basketball have the capacity to attend Morning Basketball which runs every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before school. The soccer program delivered by Melbourne Victory Football Club is on Wednesdays at lunch, recess and afterschool in the Rec. We endeavour to provide more engagement activities to build the capacity of our young people. We express thanks to the Department of Education’s Youth Participation Office for funding to increase inclusive programs and engagement at MSC. The Video Games Club also holds activities such as chessboard tournaments, UNO among others.

Western Bulldogs Goal Mentoring Program

Around 20 students of African Heritage have signed up for the Western Bulldogs Goal Mentoring Program which is offered through the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation. Students attended a careers expo on 17 July, at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, an event which attracted leading industries across Australia and New Zealand. It was an opportunity to expose students to understand different industries and career pathways available so they are able to make informed choices and decisions on what they would like to study in the future.

The core objective of the Goal Mentoring Program is to connect young people from African Australian background with successful AFL players, AFLW players and Community Mentors from the broader western Melbourne community, both African and non-African. participants meet regularly with their Western Bulldogs mentors who guide them through workshops focused on developing a range of life skills that work towards shaping strong, community minded young leaders.  An incursion Goal Mentoring Program is planned on 5 August.
