A/Principal's Report

A very warm welcome to our students and community into Semester 2. It is the time of the year where our senior students are beginning to think about their pathways through Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 next year. It has been fantastic to see many students and their families actively engaging in our Course Counselling Information Evenings and Days. When we are actively engaged in career planning activities we support our young people to make the best choices to be their best.

Our Extra-curricular Clubs have kicked off for Semester 2. We have a large range of activities for our students to choose from including -Philosophy Club, Video Games Club, Art Pod, Role Playing Games Club and much more. If you haven’t checked out what’s on offer, make sure that you do so by looking at the newsfeed on Compass.

We have purchased a new part of Compass which will allow our parents and carers to register student absences online, 24/7. This is a fabulous feature, however it is critical for security and safety that families ensure that only parents and carers that have access to the parent log in details. Students should only access Compass through their own log in credentials.

Our staffing remains steady as we come out of the most recent wave of COVID and general cold and flus. Despite the staffing challenges being more difficult than “usual” years, we have a stable base of expert Casual Relief Teachers that are supporting our school staff through periods of illness. On days where staffing is extremely challenging, some Year 11 and Year 12 classes will be directed to the Study Centre to complete their work independently. Thankfully this is not a strategy that has needed to be used too frequently. I would like to thank our senior students for their maturity and flexibility in these instances.

Supporting students to wear our uniform well continues to be a focus this term. “Uniform Blitz” is a strategy that helps us identify and support students who need reminders or help to get into the correct uniform. We will be doing Uniform Blitz regularly this term. Please make sure that your young person has access to the correct uniform, including black school shoes (no runners). Contact the office if you would like to enquire about support that we have for families to purchase uniform.

Finally, 2023 NAPLAN data has been released. Families of students in Year 7 and Year 9 will receive these results shortly. Staff have been spending time looking at each student’s data and thinking about what this means they can do and planning a teaching program focused on what they are ready to learn next.

Thank you families for your support so far this term.
