Co-curricular - Senior Sport

Supporters’ Days

A reminder that Years 10 and 11 have been designated Supporters’ Duty this Saturday 30 July. All boys will move to SPC 3 to support the College First XI Football Team against St Spyridon College. Boys will then move down to Breen Oval to support the First XV Rugby team against Oakhill College.

Back to Breen Day

For forward planning, Saturday 13 August will see the College hold its annual ‘Back to Breen’ day. The College will host Kinross Wolaroi School in Rugby and pending results, will host a number of ISA Football semi-finals. I would like to encourage all students, families, and Old Boys to make their way down to the College to join in the celebrations.

Athletics Track and Field Season

It is with great excitement I announce that next week we will commence training for the Senior Athletics season. Unlike other sports, the College Athletics Squad have not had the opportunity to train or compete since the arrival of COVID-19 two years ago. As we know, the College Athletics season does overlap with the end of the Winter sports season. Despite the fact that many boys will be involved in Rugby, Football or Tennis, they are encouraged to attend one training session per week whilst still involved in these activities. Once their Winter commitments have concluded, boys are then expected to attend a minimum of two training sessions per week to be adequately prepared for competition.

A training schedule will be published for the boys later this week, with Invitational Carnivals and ISA Championships taking place at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre (SOPAC) on the following dates:

  • Saturday 20 August
  • Saturday 27 August
  • Saturday 3 September
  • Saturday 10 September
  • Tuesday 13 September – ISA Athletics Championships

Summer Sport Signups

Summer sport signups for Baseball, Basketball and Cricket will be conducted in the coming weeks. I would encourage boys to speak with their parents/carers about the commitment required to be involved in a Summer sport. May I remind all parents/carers and boys that these signups represent a binding commitment to the entire season.

The Summer sports trials commence later this term with ISA Basketball and Cricket fixtures commencing in Term 4, while NDJCA Cricket and RHBL Baseball fixtures usually commence in September. All competitions have concluded by Week 7, Term 1 2023.

Coaches Wanted

The College wishes to invite anyone who would be available to assist with coaching over the coming Summer season. Coaches are sought for Basketball, Baseball and Cricket in both the Junior and Senior Schools. Preference will be given to those who have coaching qualifications and have had previous experience in coaching boys. Please email your expression of interest to me (anthony.calavassy@spc.nsw.edu.au) by Friday 26 August.
