This week I need to give a big shout out to our young people who gave up their Sunday to travel out to Hermannsburg to sing at the 100 year anniversary of Carl Strehlow’s journey to Horseshoe Bend. Carl was a missionary for the Finke River Mission. Carl and his wife Frieda spent nearly 30 years in Hermannsberg. The Western Arrernte people speak highly of the Strehlow’s and their efforts to minister and support the community. His journey to Horseshoe was a sad trip as he was very ill, he was aiming to get to the trainline at Oodnadatta to travel to Adelaide for help. He was accompanied by his family and local Arrernte people. Carl Died at Horseshoe Bend in October 1922.  Carl translated lots of German theology, songs and the bible to Arrernte. In tribute to Carl, Living Waters children sang “Jesus Loves Me’ in English, German and Arrernte with the support of some Concordia Students and the Central Australia Women’s Choir. The people gathered at the celebration and the local community were very impressed by the children singing in three languages. Thanks to Pastor Neville for donating his book ‘The Story of Carl’ to our library. Also thanks to Pastor Neville for celebrating worship with us this week it was a great way to share the word with us.

Lost Property

As a mum I know how frustrating it is on a two degree morning to have no jumpers for your children. My son tells me cheerfully this morning his jumper is on the oval under a tree! This doesn’t help me on a cold morning.  Luckily all my children’s clothes are labelled so we get them back most of the time. I am surprised at the volume of lovely new jackets and jumpers in lost property with no names on them. Please label your child’s items so we can return them to you. Please come and check lost property for any missing belongings.

Next Friday is Cross Country for Years 4-6. We are racing again across at the Desert Park and are looking for some helpers. Please see the note Mrs Clark sent home earlier this week. The race will run after assembly and we would love to see as many of you there as possible, cheering on the children or helping out if you can. Feel free to dress up in your house colours and join in on the team cheers.
