Guest Speaker
On 19 July all year 9 and 10 students attended guest lectures by Professor Joan Beaumont from the Australian National University. Professor Beaumont is the author of many books about Australian military history, including Broken Nation for which she won both the Prime Minister’s Prize for Australian History and the NSW Premier’s Prize for History in 2014.
Year 9 students learned about World War One, in particular the conditions in which soldiers lived and fought in the trenches and the tragic loss of life on the Western Front.
Year 10 students learned about World War Two, especially the experiences of Australian prisoners of war in Japanese captivity.
Our year 9 and 10 students were an excellent audience, and asked many insightful questions of the guest speaker following the presentation. Congratulations year 9 and 10 Humanities students.
