Music Soiree
This week we held our Music Soiree in the Performing Arts Centre for the first time in three years. It was wonderful to see so many families and friends being able to gather together and support the students. Performances ranged from a guitar ensemble, individual piano and drum performances and the 5/6 students entertaining with drumming beats. The night finished with the middle and senior student's choir. The enthusiasm and dedication of the students in preparing for their performances was wonderful to see.
Thank you to the families and staff who attended. Special thanks to Michael, Albert, Christy and Jen for their work in bringing the soiree together. A great night was had by all!
Today our Year 4s presented to the school their assembly. They shared their learnings form the last two terms, with a focus on Wellbeing (Seeking Help) and Australian History.
Snippets from the students' scripts include:
It is amazing to be able to gather together in the PAC as a junior and senior school and Year 4SD were very proud to be the first class to present in the PAC.
In Year 4 we participate in weekly wellbeing lessons. The topic we have been learning about is Help Seeking. Help Seeking is relevant to everyday life. Everyone faces problems in life - you, me, Mr Torpey and your teacher. Problems happen: that is why we have all learnt a lot from this unit. We have learned when and how to help seek and now we ask for help more often.
It is important and it is OK to seek help from our peers and adults. We need to develop different strategies to seek help when we are worried about a situation or feel unsafe. The next time you need to ask someone for help, remember to go to a trusted person, communicate clearly what the problem is and tell them you need help. You could even tell them on a scale of 1 to 10 how big the problem is for you.
In term 2 for inquiry we learnt about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture by learning about the first fleet. We also learned about their different life styles from the British and what they used for food, shelter, transportation, housing and weaponry.
We studied facts about the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and made our own flags trying to include things from the different cultures and colors of the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian flags, then we covered our flags in tissue paper for a better effect and we had to explain the reason behind each color and symbol of our flags.
Thank you for coming to 4SD class assembly - hopefully you all now know what we have been learning recently about help seeking to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history in our inquiry unit and creating our own Australian flag. We hope you enjoyed our art.
Have a wonderful day and remember to have clear communication and ask for help no matter how big or small the problem is. Bye now and thank you for coming!!! :>
Thank you to those who attended the Literacy Parent Helper Session today. With changes to the Covid-safe Guidelines, we wanted to run the session as early as possible so parents can be invited to support the students in their learning.
We will be holding another session in the coming weeks, for those who were unable to attend today's session.

Literacy Leader
