From the Library

Term 3 is upon us, how wonderful.  The passage of time can never be stopped so we may as well simply embrace each day with all the possibilities, both good and challenging, contained therein.

Our wonderful Library has taken possession of a bespoke Neon/LED sign specifically designed for us.  In the spirit of what it means to belong to the beautiful MSC family, a family to which we all belong, it is a special touch to our ever evolving Library space.

This week, on the second day of Term, Ms. Finuala Neeson and her Year 11 Legal Studies class volunteered to prepare, cook and serve the weekly free lunch that is offered at our own Uniting Church here in Hamilton.  As a School Community we volunteer to do this once a month.

As a group, the Year 11 girls and Ms. Neeson planned the menu and shopped for the groceries.  On the day, beginning at 9am, the food was prepared from scratch in the Food Technology Kitchen with the always greatly appreciated assistance of Mrs. Lyn Graham.

At 11 am it was time to load the bus with the cooked goods, along with our very able helpers and Ms. Neeson. Once at the Church it is time to get the ovens on, set tables, set up the cordial and coffee station in readiness for folks who begin to arrive at 12 noon.

It seems that all the students very much enjoyed their experience, I know how appreciative the people who are the recipients of their efforts are. If there is food left over it is also dished up in Take Away containers that are then delivered by the lovely folk at the Uniting Church to people who cannot come to the lunch in person.

One does not have to look very far to see that in every community there are people dealing with all sorts of challenges.   For we who have so much it is important to never lose sight of all the seemingly small ways in which we can make a difference.  A kind word and a smile can have a consequence of great effect.

“Some kids are SMARTER than you.

Some kids have COOLER CLOTHES than you.

Some kids are better at SPORTS than you.

IT DOESN’T MATTER.

You have YOUR THING too.

Be the kid who can get along.

Be the kid who is GENEROUS.

Be the kid who is HAPPY for other people.

Be the kid who does the RIGHT THING.

BE THE NICE KID.”

I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge our own Mrs. Holly Herrmann.  Besides being the Library superstar that she is, it was Mrs. Herrmann's efforts in so many ways that resulted in, may I say, the spectacular Staff act at the Sacred Heart Day concert.  It was Holly who in the first instance, came up with the idea and wrote the words.  It was Mrs. Herrmann who coordinated the accompaniments of Mr. Furze on guitar and Mrs. Sambell on the keyboard. Heartfelt and sincere thanks Mrs. Herrmann. Perhaps you might like to start thinking about another staff act for the Concert in 2023?

Stay awkward, brave and kind everyone.
