“God is our Creator and has given us everything through love and he wishes that all we give him be given also through love” – Father Jules Chevalier

When you sit through a Mass at Monivae College, you will see two banners – one saying, “to be on earth the heart of God” and the other, “remember the power of love”

Both of these messages were lived out on the last day of Term 2, when we celebrated the Feast Day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

As mentioned in briefly in the last newsletter, “Sacred Heart Day”, as we call it, is one of the biggest celebrations on the school calendar, a day where we celebrate all it means to be a member of the wider MSC community.

Father John Mulrooney msc said Mass for the school community, a lovely celebration that was based on the message “Be Kind”. Father John was joined by Father Paddy Mugavin and Father Ted McCormack msc for the mass.

Our students and staff then celebrated the rest of the day with quizzes, shared lunches in homeroom, and then the famous SHD talent show. Undoubtedly the highlight of the talent show was the staff choir, but more importantly, the message of love and inclusivity was evident for all to see.

I previously mentioned the St Vincent de Paul Winter appeal that concluded at the end of Term. Over 2000 tins of food was delivered by Mr. Bailey, Mr. Wheaton, and myself to the local St Vincent de Paul chapter. These tins will help feed those who are struggling through the Winter months. It was worth noting that the local St Vinnies mentioned that they had already exhausted their previous spend on food, and the year was only half over. Our generosity would go a long way in the local community, and that is something the Monivae community should be proud of.

Pauline Kelly from St Vinnies was then invited to our next assembly, where she will also be presented with a cheque, proceeds of the cake stall and casual day.

As the students enjoyed the extra week break, staff participated in their annual Staff Retreat. These days are specifically designed to assist staff with their Spiritual formation, especially within the context of the MSC.

Our special guest speaker was Father Peter Hendriks msc, the current Deputy Provincial. It was great to have Peter, a former Monivae chaplain, back in the fold, even if it was only for one day.

As Term three began, we once again provided lunches for the Uniting Church lunch in town. Monivae participate in this once a month, as the Love of All is an important message for us to teach our students, and this local opportunity is a good way to demonstrate this.
