Principal's News

Our School Vision

“Cheltenham East students are empowered learners who are flexible thinkers with the skills and knowledge to respond critically and creatively to their world.”

Acknowledgement

Some of our Year 3/4 students will be doing an acknowledgement to Country each Monday morning at 9am over the loud speaker.

I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land on which we are gathered and pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging of the Bunurong people and extend that respect to other indigenous Australians in the community.

Vandalism

We have again had more vandalism this week with graffiti on the music room wall and asphalt and damage to one of the covers of the wall. It is very frustrating and a waste of Mr Jon’s valuable time.  These incidents continue to be reported to the police and again I would ask if any members of the community are passing and see anything suspicious ring the police who have been doing extra patrols in the school this week.

Roof Repairs

The roof of the main building has been undergoing repairs thanks to the Department of Education this week to rectify the leakage we have had when we have torrential rain.  They have replaced the old iron sheets with new ones and , increased the pitch of the roof so water can run off rather than sit there. They have also installed larger guttering in the roof so it can cope with large quantities of water.

Shade Sail

The new shade sail is now finished and looks great down on the oval area. It will be invaluable as important protection during those hot summer months ahead for the children. It will also help Mrs Robinson before and during Physical Education lessons to keep the children cool.

House Athletics Sports

We have held a successful school Athletic sports day at Moorabbin Athletics track. Congratulations to Coolac House who won on the day.  Luckily the weather held off and it was great to see so many children giving their best for their particular houses.  There is a huge amount of work that goes into setting up these days and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Robinson for her training and coaching of the children this term in preparation for the Athletics carnival.  I would also like to thank our wonderful staff and parents who helped out on the day to make it so successful.

Cued Articulation

Some of our staff have been completing Cued Articulation training this week to assist the children with the sounds of letters and words. The program is designed to physically show the children how to form the sounds with the correct tongue position and express the letters and words correctly. This will help them with the pronunciation, spelling and writing of our language.

Lost Property

Our lost property collection is growing with jackets and jumpers being the main items on show. Please check the lost property rack and tubs and reclaim any items that haven’t made their way home. Clearly named clothing items can be returned to their owners, so please make sure your child’s clothing items are clearly named.

Enrol Now for 2023

We are open for 2023 enrolments and forms can be collected at the Office. If you have a child turning 5 by April 30, 2022, please complete an enrolment form and bring in a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunisation record and we will process the enrolment. It helps us enormously with planning, if we have a clear indication of enrolments as early as possible.

2023 Foundation Transition Program

Next Friday the 12th of August our 2023 Foundation students will attend their third transition 'It's Story Time'.  Invitations have been sent today to enrolled students only.

Cyber Use at Home

A reminder to all parents that they need to closely monitor their children’s use of any electronic devices including mobile phones, iPads and computers at home. Every parent should regularly check the site history of laptops and iPads to ensure the children are using them in the correct way.

Cut down on Litter

We actively encourage our students to avoid bringing packets and plastic wrappers (Nude Food) to school. It cuts down on litter and is much better for the environment. A named container is perfect.

School Values

The children will continue working closely together through the coming winter months. This is a great time to reinforce our school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COURTESY and CO-OPERATION with all children. Filling someone’s bucket of kindness should be a priority for all children and adults. Helping others is to be encouraged by everyone and can be done in a variety of ways. It is great to see our Year 6 children looking after the younger children out in the yard.
