VCE LEGAL EXCURSION: PARLIAMENT HOUSE

By Vicky Fraanje (Deputy Principal)

On Friday the Year 11 & 12 Legal Students headed into the city for a jam packed day of Legal excitement!

The interruptions to the Belgrave line made the journey particularly long for some but it was certainly worthwhile.  Our first stop was the Old Melbourne Gaol.

Our tour guide was terrific, giving us a behind the scenes tour, packed full of stories which kept our interest.  The gaol is such a disturbing place which generated much discussion and interest.

We then headed to the Old Magistrates' Court where we took part in a Culpable Driving role play, again this was confronting and disturbing but so relevant to what we study.

Our final stop was the Victorian Parliament where we had a quick tour of the Legislative Council but spent most of our time in the Lower House passing a bill.  Some students were very comfortable in the seats of the Speaker, Premier and Opposition leader.

Another excellent day of learning outside the classroom!

SHARING THE LOVE - DONATIONS TO THE DISCOVERY CENTRE

By The DC Team

This week we have had a number of magazine and book donations from students - a special thanks to the students including Lilia L. and Isla L. for their recent donations.

If you have high quality magazine subscriptions or books in good condition that you think may be appropriate to share with our school community, please chat with our DC Team (or let us know via email on discovery@bhcs.vic.edu.au). Due to our collection requirements and space constraints we cannot accept every book, but we appreciate all offers.

We are really excited to share the new magazines and books with the wider school community. Thanks again to our students and families.
