Senior Play: A Midsummer Night's Dream

By Leah Nicholls (Head of Drama)

Just 16 weeks ago the cast of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" stood in the audition room and presented, somewhat nervously, their prepared Shakespearean monologue. Fast forward to last weekend, and those same students have now blossomed into accomplished actors who took Shakespeare’s work and brought it to life for sold out audiences across three nights.

The rehearsal season certainly threw us some curveballs and unfortunately sickness prevented two of our cast from performing, but there is a reason we say ‘the show must go on’ - and go on, it did!

The cast worked together beautifully, filling roles as needed and supporting each other - there was such a sense of unity both on and off the stage. It was a joy to watch them on the stage and wonderful to be back in the theatre after a two year hiatus.

A school parent, Craig, has graciously shared his reflections of the performance. As a UNSW Theatre graduate and NIDA Production alumni, it’s safe to say we are thrilled by his response to the show!

On Thursday July 21st I attended the opening night of the BHCS production with my Year 9 son. Little did I know the pleasure, enjoyment and sheer fun that awaited us, better still I had a front row seat! Suffice to say I returned home and immediately booked a seat for Friday night. Different night,  same joy and delight.
And my overall opinion… A TRIUMPH!
A special mention for the musical interludes. Especially composed for this production I learnt, and played to discordant perfection by a mini orchestra of BHCS student musicians!

Thank you to Craig for these kind words and thank you to all who attended. Also, a special thank you to the wonderful cast for their hard-work, effort and dedication - well done on a great performance.
