A note from Mr Jackson

Welcome

As I have walked through classrooms over the initial days of the 2022 school year, I have been impressed at the excitement and eagerness for students to return to meet friends, learn and simply be together again. Our captains visited classrooms on Monday to speak with students about how they were settling in and this is what they said,

  • “I’m feeling nervous. I’m eager to make some new lego and learn how to spell” (12K student)
  • “I’m excited and happy and want to make new friends and learn new words” (1/2W student)
  • Students in 56T were eager to “make new friends”, visit art with “a new art teacher’ and getting their “pen license”

I sense, that passing so much time apart over last year, has reminded us all of the value of being together.

On Friday afternoon, we look forward to acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we gather each day. An elder of the Wurundjeri Woi Worung people will lead us through a traditional welcoming ceremony on Friday. It will be a profound reminder of the contribution and connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as we learn, laugh and play on this land.

Facilities Update

While our community has been absent, enjoying their holidays, a number of works have taken place and enhanced our facilities.

  • Carpet in the upper block currently occupied by the 2/3/4 Area has been replaced.
  • Our aging asphalt has been renewed at the top of the driveway
  • Three new bright red shade sails have replaced torn and warn sails

We are excited to have recently received approval for another shade sail to be located outside the Italian room. We look forward to having it installed over the coming weeks!

FORPS Come Through

We are ever thankful for the support of our Friends of Rosanna Primary School (FORPS). Their effort in fundraising, despite the disruption of COVID, supported the purchase of seven interactive panels. These devices support the learning experiences of students and enable teachers to access unique learning resources. FORPS' generosity has meant that all classrooms are now equipped with these significant resources. I urge you to consider your involvement in this network of parents.

Hold On Extra Curricular Activities

As we settle into the new year we will put a pause on the return of extra curricular activities We look forward to discovering a routine of classroom learning and have our extra activities (Creative Masterminds, Digimaker, Instrumentalist Groups, Chess, Sporty Stars and SRI) join us later in the term.

Annual Privacy Update

COVID Update

A special thanks to all who are supporting the health of all in our community by adhering to the COVIDSafe protocols and behaviours.

We have distributed Rapid Antigen Test kits to families and hope that this might prove an effective strategy to identify COVID19 early.

What to do if a test proves positive

If students receive a positive test result at any time, they must report this through the Department of Health system (Rapid antigen tests | Coronavirus Victoria) or via the coronavirus hotline at 1800 675 398.

Students (or their parents) must also report a positive result to their school, either through the VicEd COVID portal or by phone or written notification. This is so the school can support them, record that they will be absent while in 7-day isolation, and let the rest of the school community know there has been a positive case onsite and that they should monitor for symptoms.

While we are unable to support learning at home in the same manner as remote and flexible learning periods in previous years, classroom teachers will provide a range of learning resources to support students during isolation.

A range of strategies are in place to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID19. These include;

  • explicit lessons and discussions on hand sanitising, the wearing of masks (where appropriate) and the importance of physically distancing where possible
  • the separation of student cohorts as much as possible both during learning and in the playground
  • mask wearing continues to be mandated for staff (unless they are teaching) and students in Years 3-6 (unless exempted). Students in other year levels are encouraged to wear a mask if they choose.
  • all visitors who enter school buildings are required to complete a QR Code checkin, show evidence that they are fully vaccinated, wear a mask, hand sanitise and practise physical distancing.
  • air purifiers have been placed in each home room, the staffroom and first aid room

To keep our community healthy, I encourage parents to keep their child/ren at home if they are unwell.
