Junior School Update

2022 started with a burst of energy from our Junior School Students, all excited to be onsite and meeting their new form group peers. 

For those new to the school, we just wanted to provide you with an overview of our year level themes: 

• In Year 7 we focus on Positive Relationships as we want to foster a sense of community, build connections, and support the transition of students to secondary school.  
• In Year 8 we want to foster a sense of Gratitude, encouraging students to be empathetic to what others value and believe.  
• For Year 9 students, we look closely at Resilience – learning strategies to cope with challenges and disappointments that arise and begin to understand that change is a part of living. 

Introducing the Junior School Team for 2022 

The Junior School office has an open-door policy, and we encourage students to connect with their Year Level Coordinators or Engagement Leaders. 

Year 7 Update

The transition into secondary school for our Year 7 students has been smooth as they have begun forming their BHHS community connections: meeting their new teachers, forming new friendships, engaging in extra-curricular clubs and activities, and familiarising themselves with our busy school buildings and corridors as they develop a new school routine. 

We had high attendance at our Year 7 Orientation camp – "YMCA Camp Manyung" located down on the Mornington Peninsula. It was a great Camp with students committing to the challenging activities and coming together to build their collaborative capabilities. 

On top of this we also had the chance to invite parents and guardians into the school as part of our Year 7 Picnic evening. This event had some wonderful musical performances. Students zealously sought out their teachers to find out who had been skydiving and who was an experienced horse rider, and parents and guardians had a chance to meet the families of their children’s newfound friends.  Don’t just take our word for it, here are some comments from a few of the Year 7’s themselves:

Years 8 and 9 Update

Our Year 8 and 9 students returned to school with gusto, refreshed from their holiday breaks and excited to be onsite with their peers again. They have spent the term getting to know their new electives and Form Groups and engaging in inter-school sport opportunities. The Year 8 students had a great end to term, participating in an incursion that complemented their Health and Physical Education curriculum. They worked with experienced facilitators to learn how to make safe and informed decisions in various social settings that they will encounter in the coming years.  

We also welcome all our Junior Class Captains to their leadership roles in 2022.
