The SRC is back up and running! We recently had our training day which resulted in new friendships, voting for our 2022 Executive Council and getting organized into our four teams: the Fundraising Team, the Podcast Team, the Garden Team and the Unknown Team. We have already started some projects, such as the Easter Hamper fundraiser for our school’s sponsor child, and we can’t wait to jump back into some meaningful projects.
Last year, the SRC worked with some students in various year levels to put into action a beautiful mural for the stairwell leading from IT up to the Wellbeing Hub and the third floor. Even through the challenges of multiple lockdowns, Box Hill High School students helped design the mural that was painted by Simone Thomson, a Wurundjeri and Yorta Yorta woman, who is an accomplished artist. We would like to say a huge “thank you” to Simone for helping us to create this stunning artwork that features a range of native animals and beautiful First Nations Dreaming elements. The colour and expanse of this new mural has really brightened up what used to be a dull, dingy space, so if you haven’t seen it yet, go check it out!

We are so proud to be kicking off 2022 with our new House names! Last year in Term 4, we finally got to celebrate with a barbeque and heaps of House-coloured lollies. Our new House names for Box Hill High School are officially:
Blackburn – Yellow
Chang – Blue
Freeman – Red
Irwin – Green
We feel that these names better represent our diverse school community and celebrate personal qualities that are more in keeping of our school values – Respect, Creativity, Resilience and Growth.
For Term 1, students got into the House spirit for our first sports carnival of the year, the Swimming Carnival. The weather was perfectly pleasant and many students were keen to jump in the pool! Congratulations to Chang House for taking out the top spot to win the first carnival cup of 2022!
The results of the day are as follows:
1st - Chang, 340 points
2nd - Irwin, 327 points
3rd - Freeman, 236 points
4th - Blackburn, 207 points
