Term 1 Week 2 2022 - Friday 11th February
What have we been up to?
The 1/2 teaching team would like to welcome back all our 1/2 students and parents to 2022. We have all had an amazing start to the year and are excited to see what the rest of the term and year bring! It has been wonderful to see so many happy faces at school, and hear about everyone’s holidays.
Over the past fortnight the students have been working on a series of activities to jump start our school year, while focusing on our school and classroom culture. We have centred our learning around the 7 Habits and how we can become leaders at school and at home. Each class has created their classroom mission statement as well as individually creating their Personal W.I.G (Widely Important Goal) for Term 1. These activities have had the students participating in classroom discussions, working and collaborating as a team (in pairs and small groups), as well as working independently.
The 1/2 team would also like to welcome Miss Verrios, Ms Shellie and Jacqui who have joined the Le Page staff this year. The children are already forming beautiful connections with them, and they have enjoyed getting to know all of the students across our 1/2 classes. They look forward to working with our students and families throughout the year.
Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!
What is coming up?
Reading
Over the next fortnight the 1/2 students will begin exploring the connections they can make to texts. They will be sequencing texts, and exploring the language features and structure of a Recount text.
Writing
The text type the students will be focusing on over the next fortnight is Recount. The focus of our writing will be to identify and list vocabulary in a recount, engage in highlighting, editing and rewriting important parts of a recount, and using a variety of nouns, verbs and adjectives to enhance their writing.
Maths
To kick off our number and algebra exploration students will be focusing on counting and modelling numbers. They will be investigating number sequences and discover different ways that numbers can be recognised, modelled, represented and ordered.
Inquiry & Science
This fortnight the students will begin their Inquiry unit ‘My Learning Brain.’ They will look at the different emotions they can feel and what effects them, and look at distinguishing the difference between right and wrong. Science will see the students begin a biological science unit ‘Watch it Grow.’ Throughout the unit students will explore the growth of a range of living things and explore the processes of growth and change, of reproduction and death that apply to all animals. Through hands-on activities and investigations, students compare the growth of living things under different conditions.
