Chaplain's Corner

Hello and welcome to the Chaplain’s Corner. A special shout out to the new families joining us at King’s College this year. We are looking forward to enjoying a more social and community vibe with you around our school this year.

What a privilege it is to work at King’s and be part of a Christian school. We are thankful that we have the freedom to speak with our students about who God is and why knowing him is so important to our lives. At the start of this year, King’s College staff had a professional learning session focusing on how to combine what we believe about God and humanity into our workplace practice. We were asked to be creative, caring, supportive, and empowering towards our students in recognition that they are fearfully and wonderfully made to reflect their creator God.

We were asked to reflect on this question - In what ways am I called to this role?

Here are Marko Wakim's thoughts:

I felt called to this role because I want to be an instrument in helping to see young lives grow in faith and maturity into young adults. The two come together perfectly in the form of the chaplaincy role. Since I was in my late teens I have had a heart for working with youth but not understanding how I could do that. It was not until my mid-20s that I had a realisation that I can actually be a world changer by the way I make my own choices but also in helping others be the best they can be. I grew up in a household that grew me in a real relationship with Jesus. All these things and a bunch of life experiences have enabled me to step into this role and be obedient to God as he asks me to take part in his ministry. I consider that to be a great privilege and honour.

Camilla McLeod’s thoughts:

These are two important periods in my life:

When I recognised and understood that I was a sinner in need of a saviour and asked for forgiveness from God through Jesus Christ, a life changing sense of love and acceptance came over me.

When my three children (now adults) all attended King’s College from Prep to Year 12 and they all will speak in favour of the Christian education they received especially from teachers that lived out their faith in the way they taught and connected with students.

Both of these reflections along with going through and growing from the many different experiences and challenges that I have encountered has given me an empathetic perspective to care for others. I have a deep interest in the importance of wellbeing and the value of strengthening relational skills and the usefulness of attentive listening.

If you see either of us around the school, please say hello or if you would like to speak with us please contact the school office.
