Music News

Dr Andrew Butt

A big thank you to all families and students for what has been a successful start to the year for Instrumental and Co-curricular Music at Marist College Ashgrove. The past fortnight has seen the welcoming of over 150 new enrolments into the Instrumental Music Program and the beginning of ensemble rehearsals for our twenty large and small groups. With some ensembles already preparing for performances later this term, there has been no shortage of music making across the College. We are pleased to share the Semester One Concert Dates below. These include new dates for the rescheduled Premier Ensembles Concert and Autumn Concert, with the goal of these events running with a live audience (rather than online), pending any further changes to the 2022 Back to School Plan. In curricular music, our Year 5 students are beginning instrument allocation for the Year 5 Band and Strings immersion program, as well as beginning preparations for their debut Draney Theatre performance in the 2022 Year 5 Musical “Dig It!”

Marist Vocal Ensembles

A reminder to all families of the below opportunity for your son to be involved in Co-curricular Music at Marist.

At Marist College Ashgrove, all students have the opportunity to participate in our diverse offerings of the Co-curricular Music Program. Beyond our Instrumental program, the College has two non-auditioned Vocal Ensembles where all students can further involve themselves in College culture, through a fun and supportive choral singing environment. Participation in Co-curricular Ensembles involves the weekly commitment of a morning rehearsal, as well as providing multiple performance opportunities for students throughout the year. Please email music@marash.qld.edu.au to sign your son up to join one of the Vocal Ensembles below (Please include Year Level and Full Name).

  • Marist Voices - Open to all students in Years 5-6
  • Performance Choir - Open to all students in Years 7-12

Shedfest

Year 12 Marist College Ashgrove Band “Everso” (Alex Gibson, Tom Horton, Ruben Darwin and Will Fitzgerald) performed at All Ages Event “Shedfest” last weekend, supporting headliners and 2021 Old-boys “Special Features”. It is great to see Marist College Ashgrove students continuing to have a strong presence in the local music scene, as well as those who attended in support of original music.

New Music Staff

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome new staff members to the Instrumental Music Teaching Staff at Marist College Ashgrove this year;

  • Ms Evalyn Legried (Cello Tutor)
  • Mr Monash Lal (Flute Tutor)
  • Mr Dominic Machen (Percussion Tutor)
