Head of Students News

Mr Peter Serone

Online learning and movement

The feedback from teachers has so far been very complimentary of the way students have engaged in their learning at this early stage. When at school, between lessons students will be walking and general movement happening. Online, staff generally finish lessons with enough time for students to stand up, stretch and change their eye focus. I encourage parents to remind their sons to do these simple things and to move about during break times.

College Health Centre Operations

The health centre is a vital asset to the boarding community and day students including staff. To keep the boarding community safe at this time the health centre will be limited to boarding students. A separate room just past the health centre, closer to the main boom gate will be set up as a sick bay for day students. It will be well signposted for day students who may present for care and their parents.

Day parents please note: Students who present to the health centre will be assessed and parents contacted for immediate pick up if they are unwell or sent back to class. Under the circumstances, there are no sickbay beds for day students to stay for lengthy periods of time.

Uniform expectations

Set out below is the information parents were emailed at the end of last year about the College uniform. I would encourage parents to check all uniform items well in advance in the case of growth spurts over the two-month holiday break. Please ensure all uniform items are clearly labelled.

The uniform shop like many businesses has been impacted by slow deliveries of stock at this time. One item that has been in short supply is the blue College broad brim hat. This hat is only worn at school for HPE, team sports and break times. If you are new to the College and your son doesn’t currently have the blue College broad brim hat, the College is happy for him to wear a suitable broad brim hat at school until stock arrives.

Clarification of College Hat Policy

By the end of 2022, all students will require two hats. The College formal hat is to be worn to and from school and on formal occasions. The blue College broad brim hat is to be worn for HPE, team sports and break times.

Students in Years 5, 7 and 11 will be expected to wear the formal hat in term 1.

There will be a staggered rollout for students in Years 6-10.

Years 6 and 8 will be required to wear the formal hat from the beginning of term 2.

Years 9 and 10 will be required to wear the formal hat from the beginning of term 3.

There is no requirement for current Year 12 students to purchase the hat.

For 2022, the College is subsidising the purchase price of the formal hat by 20% to allow parents to purchase both hats.
