Year 3/4 Term 1 Overview

Year 3/4 Term One

Welcome to the beginning of the 2022 school year at St John's. We hope this year will be a smooth one filled with lots of exciting learning and fun.

An especially warm welcome to our new students and families too: Piper, Liam, Asees and Emily in 3/4 CB, Yasmine and Luciano in 3/4MB and Lilah and James in 3/4CM

Our team this year consists of Marisa Box, Clorinda Maio, Naomi Ryan and Carmel Barro ably supported by Shannon Wilton, Kim Wilson-Hartick, Sherie Robertson

and Melinda Kerwin.

Food

The Year 3/4 students eat a fruit/vegetable snack each morning around 10am. The fruit or vegetable may be cut up in a small container or whole. Please bring a named drink bottle to school every day for water. Children are reminded that they are not allowed to share food from their lunchboxes at school.

Please do not put sweet treats in their lunchboxes as we encourage healthy eating and use small containers instead of plastic wrappings. Thanks for your support with this.

Religious Education

This year some of our Year 4's will be receiving Eucharist for the first time and some of our Year 3's will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Therefore our initial focus this term will be on the role of prayer in our lives and the significance of symbols and rituals in prayer experiences. We will also be looking at the parts of the Mass and other liturgical celebrations leading into exploration of the Sacraments of initiation.

With Ash Wednesday falling on March 2, we will also be exploring the season of Lent - our preparation for the celebration of Easter, and the events of Holy Week leading up to this significant time in the Church's year.

Mathematics

In Number and Algebra, we will be focusing on place value and the processes of addition and subtraction. Our Measurement and Geometry topic is looking at length and in Statistics and Probability we will be focusing on data. As always, lessons are preceded by fluency practice and supported by the online Mathletics program.
