Create Performance Y7 & Y8: Building Confidence

Students in Year 7 & 8 have made a great start to their learning in the Performing Arts with focused sessions in Music and Drama. Our sessions have involved participation in a variety of activities including learning to play musical instruments and getting to know each other through games exploring dramatic elements and communication.

Teaching the Performing Arts incorporates a breadth of learning and skill development, but in my experience helping young students step out of their comfort zones is one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of my role. The best way to improve your confidence is to voluntarily take on challenges, step out of that comfortable space and give yourself the opportunity to succeed in a safe and supportive environment.

Ms A-G’s coaching tip:By taking Music and Drama seriously, you’re taking your belief in yourself seriously, because you’re stretching yourself. It’s natural to feel afraid of looking silly or asking a ‘stupid’ question, but when you flip that around you become someone who is up for a creative challenge and someone who is brave enough to take risks.

If you’re up for the creative challenges that our Music and Drama sessions offer, then you’re more likely to be up for the challenges that lie ahead in all your learning – both in and out of school! Come to each session ready to stretch yourself and you’ll have fun doing it with your supportive Create Performance teachers Ms Saunders, Ms Ferraro and myself, Ms A-G!
