Chess Afternoons - Uralla Shire Library

2018 Library News

This year has been an eventful year for the library. We have had 2 successful bookfairs where close to $3000 dollars was spent. The school receives 20 cents worth of credits for each $1 spent, so this equates to an extra $600 worth of resources for the library. The student excitement throughout each of the book fairs is wonderful to see, especially when we were visited by Clifford the big red dog. This was a highlight for many students.

This year was a bumper year for the Premier's Reading challenge. Fifty six participation certificates were awarded to the students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. However, this year saw the awarding of not 1 but 2 gold awards for Premier's Reading challenge. The Gold award is earned by completing the challenge for 4 non-consecutive years. In Years 3 upwards students must independently read 20 books on the list (including 5 choice books), before the books read to them count. So it is a wonderful achievement for Grace Kreinberg from Year 3 and Connor Tobler from Year 5 to earn. Unfortunately, their certificates did not arrive in time for the final assembly, but they will be presented early next year. I am sure I am not alone in congratulating all of the participants in this years Premier's Reading Challenge. An absolutely wonderful effort.

We hope that the new circulation desk (made of old books) will be completed early next year. It will make a fantastic new feature in the library and provides an example of what can be done in the upcycling  of old books.

Have a Holly Jolly Holiday and the library staff all hope to see you next year.
