Fizz, Bang, Pop!

This term the Year 1s and 2s have been learning all about Science! We have been focusing on light and sound. We have done lots of experiments which the students have really loved. Our favourite light experiment was the ‘Water Rainbow’, where 2 glasses were filled with coloured water and an empty glass was placed in the middle. When a paper towel was folded into both glasses, the paper towel absorbed the water and it moved into the empty glass in the middle. When the two colours mixed, they made a new colour. This was super exciting to see and easy to do at home.

Our favourite sound experiment was playing with a variety of instruments and water filled glasses to discover the difference in pitch and volume. The students loved being able to make as much noise as possible!

We also had an incursion by PrimeSCI where students participated in a variety of fun experiments such as reflecting light via mirrors. We also held string to our ears that was attached to a spoon then tapped it against the table to hear the vibrations. We are looking forward to our excursion to Scienceworks in two weeks where we hope to learn even more about science.
