St. Vincent de Paul Society

Earlier this week we were delighted to receive a letter from the St. Vincent de Paul Society thanking us for the generous donations towards the St. Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Each week volunteers from the St. Vincent de Paul Society visit over twenty homes in our local area (Port Melbourne and Middle Park) in reply to calls for assistance. The donations that were collected at Galilee have gone towards supporting their important work. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Winter Appeal. 

Confirmation

As the Year 6 students prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation, they have been focusing on the story of Pentecost and how it links to the Sacrament of Confirmation. 

The feast of Pentecost is about God’s presence with us. In the story of Pentecost in the Acts of the Apostles, the disciples experienced the Holy Spirit entering into each one of them and then drawing them together. During the Sacrament of Confirmation the candidates will be sealed with the Holy Spirit, strengthened for service and invited to, and equip for, witness to Christ. 

For some years Archbishop Denis Hart has written a Pentecost letter to the young people of the Archdiocese of Melbourne. This year his Pentecost Letter to Youth is entitled Be Courageous. In it he says,

Jesus was like us in all things but he chose to live a courageous life. Jesus found the courage to hear God’s will for his life and not his own. He found the courage not to conform to what others – his family, his friends, and the system he grew up in – wanted him to do when they contradicted God’s dream for him.

As the Year 6 students prepare to be sealed with the Holy Spirit, we encourage them to Be Courageous as they enter into a new phase of their lives. 

Parish Mass Next Week

Next week our Preps will be attending Parish Mass at 12noon, at Ss. Peter and Paul on Tuesday 24th October. Our Year 1 and 2 students will be attending Parish Mass on Thursday 26th October at 12noon, at Ss. Peter and Paul.  A Caremonkey permission form as been sent out to all Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 families. If any parents are available to attend Mass with the students, we would love to see you over at Church.

• Saturday 21 October  - Preparation Session in O’Connor/Pilkington Rooms at 4.45pm, followed by Mass at 6pm
• Saturday 28 October - Preparation Session in O’Connor/Pilkington Rooms at 4.45pm, followed by Mass at 6pm
• Wednesday 1 November - Candidates Reflection Day at MacKillop Heritage Centre, East Melbourne. More details about the Reflection Day will be made available at the Faith Night on 14 September 2017.
• Wednesday 8  November - Rehearsal & meeting with Bishop Elliott - O’Connor/Pilkington Rooms,  Middle Park at 4.30pm
• Saturday 11 November - Sacrament of Confirmation Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park at 6.00pm
