Wynspeak Public Speaking Competition

Alexia Kyriazopoulos, Teagan McHarg, Dhriti Modi and myself participated in the Wynspeak Public Speaking Competition, which was an extremely rewarding experience. We met other  enthusiastic public speakers from other schools in the Western Region and listened to some varied and interesting speeches. We delivered our own prepared five minute speeches and then prepared to deliver a speech on a surprise topic, with only about five minutes notice. This was quite daunting but also fun and a great experience for all of us.

Following this round, I was fortunate to make it to the final of the competition, which was held in Werribee in June, where I had to speak in front of a much larger audience. I was a little nervous about this but with the help of MSJ teachers, I was well prepared. There were about twenty other competitors who were confident and coherent in their presentations. I was awarded Runner-up in the Senior Student’s category, which at the time felt very surreal. Overall, this competition was an amazing experience.  I was able to showcase my public speaking skills in a supportive environment whilst gaining professional feedback from the competition judges, which I am sure, will help my future public speaking endeavours.

Karate Nationals

This year has been my second year competing for Victoria in the Nationals and it was a big ride. We flew on the Thursday and I competed on the Friday. I had around 4-5 matches but my division was parted into two mats because the division had 24 girls from around Australia competing. My final match was where I scored my final hook kick with 6 seconds to go.

The next day I had to compete with 3 other girls from Karate Victoria for a team match which is where you compete as a team against other teams. We won that and I had one match to go. The third day I wasn't competing and I spent most of the day with my friends and watching others compete. Nationals has been a very fun time and next year I am able to try out for the Australia team to represent Australia.
