2018 Visual Arts and Technology Exhibition

The 2018 Visual Arts and Technology Exhibition was held on 17th October to 19th October in the PAC. Students from each year level were given an opportunity to view and appreciate a wonderful range of art pieces from Years 7-12 on display. It was exciting to see many artworks including sculptures, paintings, movies/videos, and many colourful 2-D artworks.

The official opening was on Wednesday 17th October. It was good to see many parents, students, staff and friends attend the Glen Eira College Annual exhibition.  It was a relaxing environment with wonderful comments made by the guests about all students’ artwork making this year's exhibition better than recent years.

Guests were entertained throughout the night by pianist Richard Shao and strings by Ishwarya Polisetti and Claudia Miller. I greeted the guests at the door, with the Food Technology Department serving refreshments for everyone, whilst my counterpart Visual Arts Captain Sierra Danon photographed the beginning of the night and I photographed the official speeches.

Mrs Kindler made a grand official opening speech followed by Sierra Danon who introduced Daniela Scaramuzzino from Deans Art who supplied awards to Year 10, 11 and 12 students in Studio Arts, Art and Visual Communication Design. These students have demonstrated a top understanding within the Visual Arts and may consider continuing this area of study.

Student artists exhibit in Glen Eira City Council Gallery

This month we had 3 students exhibit their artworks in the 2018 Youth Art Exhibition (11th-21st October) alongside other youths aged 5 - 25 from the local community. The annual exhibition is a celebration of emerging young artists in the City of Glen Eira where any art form may be entered and presented to the wider community.

Year 9 students Layla Carmeli-Wolski and Sophie Swialto presented a stencil piece and a drawing, respectively. Kali Appleby of Year 12 presented a personal black and white photographic series.

Massive congratulations to our very own Sophie Swialto for winning the overall Event Theme Award with her piece, ‘Thrown’, a detailed and expressive drawing eloquently encompassing her interpretation of this year’s theme Home. Sophie was presented with a $200 gift card prize at the Gallery’s Presentation Night on October 18th. We look forward to continually encouraging our students to engage artistically with the wider community and foster their creativity beyond the classroom’s boundaries.
