Lights, Camera ... ROXY!

Performing Arts at RPPS!

What a talented bunch!

It has been thrilling to see how well Performing Arts has been received by the students! There is so much talent here at RPPS! We have some naturally talented actors, dancers, musicians and singers here, it is such a wonderful thing to see students demonstrate their abilities and have an opportunity to practice them. Keep up the fantastic work everyone! Here’s what we have been getting up to in the Performing Arts classroom:

Preps

The preps have been exploring drama by looking at different emotions and learning to show them with their faces and bodies. We have been focusing on putting together a class play of the story, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Micheal Rosen. So far, we have learnt the story and the locations that the characters have visited. Will be practicing our class play and learning different elements of drama until the rest of term.

Grade 1 & 2

The grade 1’s and 2’s explored dance by learning about Lunar New Year. They created their own dances inspired by the Lion and Dragon dances in which they chose their own animal to represent and included props into their performance. The have also explored music by learning about different percussion instruments and using them in class!

Grade 3 & 4

The grade 3’s and 4’s have been exploring drama by playing improvisational games and putting together puppet shows inspired by the lunar new year. They have been exploring music by using body percussion and percussion instruments to learn about rhythm and beat. The have also been exploring pitch and participating in class singing choirs.

Grade 5 & 6

The grade 5’s and 6’s explored dance by using inspiration from other cultures to inspire movement and using choreographic devices such as mirroring to help them to create dances. They have been exploring dramatic action and comedy through improvisation and puppet shows. They have also been exploring music by creating beats and rhythms using body percussion with a partner and performing their creations to the class.

During recess every Thursday we have been running the Roxy theatre club in the small gym, where kids have been making mini-plays or dances and presenting their creations to the others for workshopping. Thanks to those of you who have been joining us and remember, everyone is welcome! Stayed tuned for Choir Club in Term 2!
