Reflection Room

As part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Program, the Reflection Room is a strategy we have introduced over the Term. The room is used for managing disruptive and inappropriate playground behaviour at Roxburgh Park Primary School. Reflection time is also consistent with our current philosophy of restorative practice which asserts that nothing worthwhile can be achieved outside the concept of respectful and quality relationships.

If inappropriate behaviour, such as, inappropriate language, physical aggression, fighting, harassment, taunting, defiance, property damage or misuse  occurs, then a students is sent to the reflection room during recess so as not to miss important learning time. The students engages with a teacher in reflection of their behaviour, the school values and making appropriate choices when playing outside. A note is sent home for parents to sign and have a conversation about what happened. Parents will be contacted for a meeting after a student has 3 visits to the reflection room and a behaviour contract and support plan will be put in place.

Extra Activities in the Yard

During lunch and recess our staff have been  providing extra activities and clubs throughout the term. It has been excellent to see so many students taking up some of the extra activities we are offering and loving it so much so that we have had to cap some of the activities. We will continue to offer yard activities and even add some new ones to the timetable.

Tutor Learning Program

The Tutor Learning Initiative is designed to support students whose learning has been disrupted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our school has engaged in this Initiative and engaged in our first cycle of learning.

Students are considered based on their eligibility for the Tutor Learning Initiative students are selected for the initiative through rigorous analyses of assessments, the student’s context and various other considerations. Once they have been identified they engage in targeted intervention 4 times per week for a period of approximately 5 weeks at school with our Learning Specialists Rohan and Fiona. After our first cycle of 5 weeks targeted 20 students we are already seeing great success and benefits from the Victorian Initiative.

Wellbeing

Louise Rogers, our school social worker, is developing the wellbeing needs of our students requiring mental health support. We have managed to secure OnPsych services to work with our school. OnPsych offer services to students and their families at no out of pocket cost (bulk billing) under the GP Health Plan. This entitles the student/family member to 10 sessions per year with the psychologist or mental health social worker.  The psychologist or mental health social worker who is working at Roxburgh Park Primary School is Angelica Gomez.  Some of our students have commenced seeing our psychologist to support their emotional and mental health needs.
