Year 6 Report

End of Term 1

What a busy time Term 1 has been. We've had Maths nights, camp, school representative sport, Harmony Day and even a three day lockdown and still our students have managed to get lots of work done in class.

Students sharing what our values look like, feel like and sound like.

This term in Reading and Writing, students have extended their knowledge of aspects of reading such as figurative language, summarising and using the text to work out the meaning of unknown words. They have also immersed themselves in the features of a mystery narrative. This has involved students exploring and experimenting with mystery aspects to write about in Writing such as alibis, clues, suspects and red herrings. The VCOP Program has supported their written endeavours as usual.

Some mystery stories we have read during Reading.

In Maths, the students have explored many different aspects of place value. They have used temperature and money concepts to explore positive and negative numbers, and how to place these on a number line. Students have been learning to identify whether a number is prime or composite, which has involved them learning about factors. In addition, students have been learning about triangle and square numbers and the patterns that these involve. They have also looked at time tables.

This term, the students have explored a Health topic focused on adolescent growth and development. They have learned about the social, physical and emotional changes they will experience during this stage of their lives. They have engaged in role-play and group work to clarify their understandings and interpretations, and challenge misconceptions.
