Year 4 Report
End of Term 1, 2021.
Hooray! What an amazing term the Grade 4's have had! They should all be proud of their efforts in settling into Grade 4 and for all the hard work they have achieved so far. We've had so much happen this term such as the Fathering Project launch, and the Maths Night, which was fantastic to see students having fun, sharing activities with their family members. Congratulations to our Action Team Members, Asya (4A), Ali (4B) and Tiya (4C), we look forward to seeing some new initiatives for our school.
In Reading this term, Grade 4 students have explored fiction and non fiction books, with a focus on procedural text looking at structure and language features. The students were engaged in a variety of activities that allowed them to explore the author's purpose and continue to develop their understanding using various comprehension strategies. The Grade 4 students continued to discover new and exciting vocab throughout the term increasing their knowledge and applying them in their writing. During the term, they also had the challenging task of developing reading stamina by reading their 'Just Right' books.
In Writing, Grade 4's started the term looking at procedural text and the language features. The students gained a good understanding about the genre and were able to complete a few pieces of writing. Students were also engaged in developing their understanding of imperative verbs and adverbs and applying this to their writing. One of the most exciting aspects of our writing was learning and working through the stages of writing. The students were engaged and worked at their own pace. All students had the opportunity to publish a chosen piece.
In Mathematics, Grade 4's have been engaged in a variety of activities which allowed them to further develop their understanding of place value. The students consolidated their knowledge of 3,4 and 5 digit numbers through rounding, expanding and regrouping.
Towards the end of term they explored fractions, equivalent fractions and placing fractions on a number line.
The term 1, the Inquiry unit for year 4 focus has been “Healthy Me.” Students have had the opportunity to investigate what it means to be healthy. They have developed an understanding that in order to be healthy we need to focus on eating food that nourishes our body and keeps us healthy. They are also aware that being healthy also means being able to identify our emotions and that positive emotions also are an important part of staying healthy.
We are looking forward to another exciting term!
