Prep Report

Welcome

WOW what a super effort the Prep students have shown with their learning in Term One. It has been a very busy term with lots of exciting learning happening.  We look forward to lots of fun and engaging learning experiences planned for next term.

Reading

In Reading this Term, Prep students have been learning about different features of a book including the title, the role of the author and illustrator, the blurb and main characters. Students have been working on identifying their Oxford words within a text and have enjoyed spotting known punctuation such as Capital letters when reading from left to right. Prep students are now working towards reading independently for 10 minutes and can demonstrate what a good reader looks like when reading.

Writing

In Writing this Term, Prep students have been learning about the letters and the sounds of the alphabet. They have been participating in making craft activities related to the letter of the week and have been enjoying language experiences such as making: Milkshakes for M, Slime for S, Fairy Bread for F and Popcorn for P. Students have then written recounts based on their language experiences and what they did on the weekend. Students have also practised labelling their pictures and how pictures can be used as a tool to support their writing.

Numeracy

In Numeracy this Term, Prep students have been learning about numbers 0-5 with a focus on identifying the numeral, word and the number displayed in different forms such as on a number line, in a tens frame and on a dice. Students are learning how to model the numbers and apply their understanding to real-world place value counting for e.g. How many days we have been in Prep. Students are working towards ordering, sequencing and comparing these numbers and identifying numbers to 10 and beyond. Students have also incorporated ICT in Mathematics by using BeeBots to assist in making predictions based on the distance the BeeBot travels.

Inquiry

In Term 1, Prep students have celebrated what makes them unique and special. Their likes and dislikes and similarities and differences to their peers through the topic of ‘Me and my school.’ Students have also explored friendship, discussing the importance of happy and healthy friendships, including the behaviours and attitude of what makes a good friend.

Prep students have also explored friendship, how to be a good friend and why it's important to have happy and healthy friendships.
