Swimming Carnival

Last week the students in the Junior School enjoyed their annual Swimming Carnival. It was a ton of fun! The students in Years 3 to 6 accomplished amazing things on the day. They were enthusiastic, committed, and achieved things they thought they could never do. It was awesome to watch everyone cheering on one another and encouraging each other to do their best (in a COVID safe manner!). It was so loud at the KWS pool! A special thank you to our Year 9 to 12 Duke of Edinburgh students who acted as race timekeepers on the day. They did an outstanding job of not only capturing accurate times but of encouraging and supporting students as they completed their events.

There were some outstanding individual results achieved on the day. Thank you and congratulations to all students who participated on the day. Rarely do we get to see a record broken at any carnival however this year we witnessed 3!

Congratulations to Chloe Provost who broke the Senior years 100m freestyle record with a time of 1.11.84 (0.61 seconds faster) and the 12 years 50m freestyle record with a time of 31.05 (1.56 seconds faster).

Congratulations to Charlotte Williams who broke the 11 years 50m backstroke record with a time of 39.97 (1.01 seconds faster)

If you child would like to know their race times they are welcome to speak with Ms Holland or Ms Dodson.

An event like a swimming carnival does not just happen. It is the result of a team effort over many days of planning, checking, consulting, and revising. I would like to thank Mr Taylor and Ms Holland for their outstanding effort in developing the program for the day. The danger when you thank someone is you forget others. In this instance it is the Junior School staff who all played a part in communicating with students, following up on race entries and their constant efforts on the day as race marshals, life savers, place judges, result recorders, certificate writers as well as personal cheer squads and a constant source of information for students. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the staff who put their swimming reputations on the line in the staff vs student relay. There is always next year team!
